Do You Want To Learn All About CBD- CBD 101

Recently there has been a surge in products containing CBD, whether it’s in the form of oils, tablets, or topicals. Even though this chemical compound is relatively new in the industry, the plant it’s derived from has been used in many cultures for its healing effects for centuries now. Want to learn all about CBD keep reading!

What is CBD?

CBD, more specifically “cannabidiol”, is a chemical compound which is extracted from a plant called the Cannabis Sativa plant, commonly known as the hemp plant.

Although the hemp plant and marijuana plant are part of the same family, this compound does not possess the ability to cause an altering effect on your mind, while marijuana, on the other hand, does. This is because of the difference in the levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

The level of THC in hemp (from which CBD is derived) is very less compared to marijuana, having a maximum concentration of 0.3% THC.

Types of CBD

Another factor that adds on to the mist of confusion around CBD is the existence of three different types of CBD, which are listed below:

  • Full-spectrum CBD
This type contains all the natural cannabinoids found in the hemp plant, like CBN, CBC, and CBG. There are over a hundred different cannabinoids in the hemp plant, along with some terpenes! All of these are included in full-spectrum CBD. Taking all of these together in the form of full-spectrum CBD causes an ‘entourage effect.’ (more on that later)

In this type of CBD, the maximum concentration of THC is 0.3%, so it may show up on a drug test. including a maximum of 0.3% THC, causing it to show on a drug test.

  • Broad-spectrum CBD

Just like full-spectrum CBD, this type contains all cannabinoids extracted from the hemp plant except THC. Hence, broad-spectrum CBD also causes the ‘entourage effect.’

The exclusion of THC means that will not show up on a drug test.

  • CBD isolate

This type consists of only CBD and only little to no other chemical compounds found in hemp plants, therefore will not cause an ‘entourage effect’ and will not show up on any drug tests. CBD isolates are about 99% pure.

People take a liking to broad-spectrum more than full-spectrum and isolate because it has some benefits of both, meaning it causes the ‘entourage effect’ without any presence of THC. CBD isolate has fewer ingredients and tastes better while full-spectrum CBD is more natural has a strong ‘entourage effect’.

Some people don’t get the desired effects from CBD isolate so they choose full or broad-spectrum CBD instead. You could use trial-and-error it until you find the one which works best for you.

The Entourage Effect

This word is commonly thrown around when talking about CBD, so it is essential to know what it means when trying to understand more about this chemical compound.

The ‘entourage effect’ is basically a combination of everything a hemp plant has to offer.

This means that the effects of the cannabinoids are significantly multiplied and boosted when they’re used together, as compared to their individual effects!

Benefits of CBD

CBD has the potential to become one of the world’s most beneficial natural ingredients, but as of now the limited research we have on this compound can only assume its limits. It might prove to be extremely beneficial in helping with anxiety, depression, and substance abuse treatment due to its possible neuroprotective properties. It may also help alleviate cancer symptoms due to its anti-tumor effects. It could also benefit heart health, help with acne, and prevent diabetes.

Another benefit of CBD is its pain-relieving effect! Unlike traditional drugs like opioids and NSAIDs, CBD doesn’t have any major side effects on the human body.

Side effects

CBD products as a whole still haven’t had much research put into them, but some side components have been studied.

Most recent studies suggest that CBD products are safe to use, but there are still some side effects, such as irritability, dizziness, fatigue, and nausea. However, these are very rare.

Another downside is that some CBD products interfere with certain medicines, which is why you must consult your doctor first before trying any CBD products.

Ways of Consumption

CBD products range from topicals and creams to tablets and oils, each having effects for different lengths of time.

Oils, for example, tend to last up to 5 hours and are easily and quickly taken into the bloodstream when held under the tongue. The problem is that the most effective dosage for any condition is unknown, so you may have to try and see what suits you. You should start with the lowest dosage and work your way up.

Capsules, on the other hand, take about 40 minutes to kick in, but lasts about 10 hours, double that of any oil or tincture.

Topicals are rubbed onto the area of pain and discomfort but do not spread through your body. They only get absorbed in the spot they were applied to.

The quickest way to get CBD into your system is by vaporizing it. This provides quick relief. However, CBD also leaves your system very rapidly this way.

Types of CBD Oil

There are three main types of CBD oil: raw, decarboxylated and filtered.

Raw CBD oil, as its name suggests, undergoes no purification or any other processes except for the initial extraction. It has a thick consistency and a dark green or black hue since it contains lipids, chlorophyll and other microscopic plant material. Useful mainly for people looking to make their own CBD products, this oil is hard to dispense and measure and needs to be heated before use.

Decarboxylated CBD oil is received more easily by your body than non-decarboxylated CBD and is useful for people who want to make their own CBD edibles or for those that have moderate anxiety, sleeping issues, or migraines. The only difference between this oil and raw CBD oil is that it has been decarboxylated, which increases the CBD’s effectiveness and strength.

Filtered CBD oil is usually the most purchased. It may be helpful in a variety of problems from small pains to much worse conditions. Fittingly titled “CBD oil Gold” by various companies for its golden hue, this type of oil has been filtered which removes the tiny plant pieces, lipids, chlorophyll and other non-CBD parts of the plant.
